Esther McVey is said to have twice called for a vote but it was refused - she is udnerstood to have been the strongest and most explicit opponent of the deal - lots of chatter about her resigning
Still unclear what Raab is going to do.... he is the Brexit Secretary after all but it sounds like he wasn't exactly enthusiastic in the meeting - chatter about his position too - let's see - conflicting stuff out there right now
Number 10 did give them all a glass of wine at the end of the meeting when the PM went out to do the statement ... wonder if they made a toast....

Meanwhile... Labour attempt to force vote on no confidence in PM pretty risk free for them - it isn't a way of actually forcing a vote that might collapse the govt, just embarrassing the PM and tying govt up in knots
Early indiciations are that ERG brexiteers would back the PM, but that could change - let's see what DUP decides
Ah... Sammy Wilson has just told us DUP won't back Labour if they manage to get their vote in the PM

A lot of echoes of morning after election when PM gave a speech that she could have given almost any day of the campaign - she said she had listened in that speech just there, but showed v little intent of changing v much at all
Of course her colleagues in govt relieved that she can try to carry on but it's a survival not success tonight - another big knock to the PM's credibility, and no solution at all to the gridlock in Parliament - she's survived, her brexit compromise can't in its current form
But the one uncertainty removed, she can't face another vote of confidence from her own party for a year - but that doesn't mean the govt can get through another period like this in Parliament

Esther McVey is not particularly clever. She cannot master a complicated brief. Nor is she liked by colleagues or voters. So why was she forced on the electorate of Tatton, a very safe Tory seat? Why was she given a ministerial position of such huge importance?
Simple answer: she is callous and unscrupulous to a degree that amazes even other cabinet members (and they're a pretty unsavoury bunch).

Now we have this extraordinary letter made public by Sir Amyas Morse, Comptroller and Auditor General of the National Audit Office.
"I am now reluctantly writing an open letter to you to clarify the facts." (It would be unprofessional of Sir Amyas to say "liar, liar, pants on fire.")
