What would happen if we took insights from @Deeyah_Khan seriously? I think we'd understand that the road to extremism is paved with basic human desires: love and belonging. And we'd have to ask ourselves if we are doing everything we can societally to provide that.
We'd change our language -- both on an individual level and a communal level. We'd demand accountability but that demand would be rooted in a deep concern for the souls lost to extremism. Not out of contempt for them but compassion.
