Plenty of bragging from David Davis and others in the US meeting US trade folk - in reality USTR like the EU are professionals who meet a range of people from the countries with whom they may negotiate - no need for excitement or alarm
Countries such as the US and Australia expect the UK to kick off talks for free trade agreements in April. But they are also realistic that the UK's future relationship with the EU will need to be settled before any trade talks are concluded - and this will likely take some years
It has also not escaped the attention of negotiators from other countries that the UK doesn't appear to be ready to negotiate in terms of knowing what we want - at the moment we don't seem ready to learn the lessons fro the EU negotiation
The Withdrawal Agreement will of course limit the scope of trade policy, but it appears that Liam Fox is staying in Cabinet on condition he can pretend this isn't the case. This probably suggests trouble ahead... /end
PS: This is the sort of communication that fills TTIP veterans with dread... let's ignore the fact that a UK-US trade deal will be hugely controversial, including with business and Conservative MPs, just issuing a document of aims will make it all fine...
