The far-right cavalry comes in to try to rescue Cindy Hyde-Smith

In a filing today, four members of the DeVos family -- which has famously opposed civil rights legislation in Michigan and around the country -- donated the $2700 max to Hyde-Smith
Also in today's report: A $5000 donation to Hyde-Smith from Ernst & Young (@EY_US)

The company touts its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness on it's website

These FEC reports, which come out every 48 hours or so in the 20 days before an election, are invaluable. But not too many people seem to look at them closely.

But 10% of Mississippi's voters are disenfranchised due to having criminal records, 3 x the national average.

And 20% of African Americans in Mississippi have permanently lost the right to vote.
Put another way, 1 in 5 Black people in Mississippi cannot vote. That is the highest rate in the US.

Hyde-Smith lost Warren County in the first round, and trails Espy there now. But Wicker carried it earlier this month when he won y 20 points. Lucky for her, she doesn't need to carry it. Though she should want to.
Tidbit: Cindy Hyde-Smith is currently at 63.8% in Lawrence County, just under Roger Wicker (65.3%). #MSSen
Pike County, which is a GOP county, early dump showed 210 votes for Espy and only 3 votes for Hyde-Smith.

Bayard Rustin (1912 – 1987)

For more than 50 years, Rustin was a strategist and activist in the struggle for civil rights and gay rights.

He is best remembered as being the chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington.

Rustin left the Communist party in 1941 & served as the Fellowship of Reconciliation’s race relations secretary. He was a pacifist & practiced nonviolence, a method he learned while working with Gandhi. He was imprisoned for 3 years for refusing to register for the WWII draft.
In 1947, he helped plan the first “freedom ride” in the South, challenging ongoing Jim Crow practices though ruled illegal in 1946. His efforts landed him on a chain gang. He reported on the experience which spurred an investigation leading to the abolition of chain gangs in NC.
