Republican party (one of two parties in basically closed duopoly electoral system) does not believe in science: that is going to be very costly to US in so many ways.
Climate change is as close to fact as science gets, but you do not even actually have to believe in it, or science, to know that investment in cleaner, renewable energy is good investment. Republicans are doing everything they can to block investment, research, development in US.
Forget climate change for a second: There is just no reasonable argument again clean air & water now. Which is why Republicans don't argue why it is a good idea to poison our air and water, they are just doing it. Makes a few people very rich, in short-run, at massive cost to US.

Republicans focus on percent of mainstream media stories that are critical of President Trump (>50%), but what is important is quantity and intensity of criticism of Trump relative to his corruption, cruelty, incompetence, and anti-democratic actions (which defines Trump admin).
That is essence of Republican strategy of false equivalency: demand >50% of coverage of Republicans be awesome, regardless of base-rate of awesomeness. That is not objective, that just encourages more extreme behavior/policy: no matter what you do, you get 50% good coverage!

(1) First and foremost the ACA/ObamaCare is still the law. If you need insurance please sign up now healthcare.gov (2) This ruling redefines how far conservative activist judges will go in shooting down laws they do not like. The ruling is absurd without any legal merit.
(3) This ruling will likely be overturned because it is laughable on its face from a legal perspective and would literally kill 10,000's of Americans per year so Republicans will not actually want it to happen from a political perspective.
(4) In a country where judicial branch's legitimacy is hanging by a thread, this further undermines rule of law. Republican activist judges know no bounds in their pursuit of undermining voting rights, healthcare, etc. and future legislation must be written w/ that understanding.

Vast majority of citizens who voted today voted Democratic. 7-8 pp more people will only translate into 20 or so more seats in the house. Once again Republicans will hold the senate with a minority of voters. And, of course, President Trump lost pop vote too.
Senate map was really hard: Democrats entered tonight with just 23 seats to Republican 42. Note that 6 seats we counted as safe were in tough states from 2016: OH, PA, WI, MI, MN, MN. And, we still have MT, AZ, and NV to finish counting. 46 or 47 is not ideal, but OK considering.
Democratic house ran into gerrymandering wall and could not get over. Looks like Democrats will take just 3 seats that were not in my 33 toss-up races. Despite 7+ pp victory they won where expected (which, fyi, were a bunch of Republican held districts).

Thread. There is now a definitive report from an international panel of scientists informing us that the climate is changing faster and in more direct and dangerous ways than we had hoped. This means real and massive economic and human impacts.
For farmers, this likely means more droughts and more severe and unpredictable weather. For insurance companies it means 500 year storms happening annually. For fisheries it means just less fish. For ski resorts, some will manufacture snow for whole seasons.
For ecosystems, frankly, some will crash. In the developing world where hundreds of millions of people live on coasts, and governments will not have the resources to harden shorelines and develop pumping systems, we will have tens of millions of people, some on foot,

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level
