If big tech companies keeps screwing up, why can't we change them? Here's feature story on why we're doomed to the "sorry" cycle unless workers & users unite their leverage tcrn.ch/2DGyMtQ Reason 1... 1/
Real apologies offer acknowledgement, remorse, and retribution. But tech CEOs' hands are tied by business models that depend on data grabbing, distraction, moral compromises & planned obsolescence. Sorry rings hollow without change. So can't users just leave?... 2/
We're too addicted to convenience to vote with our feet against exploitative tech companies, and winner-take-all markets leave us few viable alternatives. Fb keeps growing. We've proven we can harbor ill will while still buying & using their products. So will gov save us?... 3/
Regulators have shown they're too out of touch, self-obsessed, and clumsy to properly protect us from tech. Bad regulation can build moats for incumbents, GDPR actually grew the Google-Facebook duopoly in ad tech. But there's one group with leverage... 4/
Pricey talent wars mean tech workers hold leverage over bosses. Staff petitions stopped Google from selling AI to the military, & protests changed policies at Fb & Airbnb too. Talent must move somewhere better or stay to fight against bad biz models. But they need our help... 5/
The public and media must encourage tech giants to do what’s right for society, even when it hurts their share price, & accept that shaping the future for the collective good may feel inconvenient. Let's make them back apologies with change. tcrn.ch/2DGyMtQ 6/6
