Best guess: Trump makes soft, perfunctory comment on Azov tensions (“Ukraine’s saying this, Russia’s saying that”) while rest of Trump administration expands sanctions candidates, increases arms shipments to Kyiv.
Nina’s right here, especially when it comes to rest of Trump administration (if not Trump himself) amping up coming response against Russia. (Plus whatever Congress eyes next.)
Toss in the fact that a new House is set to take the stage, and Trump’s hands are suddenly even more tied RE a short- or mid-term response to Russia after today.

Trump Administration "is not considering supporting a referendum in the eastern Ukraine. The Minsk Agreements are the process for resolving the conflict in the Donbas, and these agreements do not include any option for referendum," says NSC Spokesman, Garrett Marquis.
