Having been misled or lied to numerous times over the years by FB comms gives journalists very little reason to believe them or reprint their statements at face value. I trust my sources more than Facebook and I think most reporters do.
Goodwill is a two-way street. Some companies earn the benefit of the doubt in reporting because they are transparent, straightforward and responsive.

There's a way to do PR and comms ethically. Be as open as you can be! Act like a human person! The ignore + obfuscate strategy will backfire in the end and already has — the truth has a way of coming out.
