“The most disturbing aspect of Cohen’s revelations regarding Trump’s Russia connections is that Putin has known it all the entire time.. Putin will never be treated like a pariah while nearly everyone believes he has the U.S. President in his pocket at least until Jan. 20, 2021.”
A dark possibility not beyond either man is that Putin and Trump could conspire to have an armed conflict timed to help Trump in 2020. A limited clash might also bolster Putin domestically, but he’d only risk it if he could control both sides.
For Trump, military action and “standing up to the Russians” would appear to refute his critics and the main theme of the Mueller investigation. And we already know he is happy to use the US military to serve himself.
