One hates to begin with a wrinkled nose but...no. It's weird to be weird. A simple Grecian column would have been divine; this is the napkin folded at the out of town relatives table at the Bat Mitzvah.
I know I'm going to appear churlish but now this is too boring. If a dress is going to be this simple, the shoulders must fit perfectly. These do not. There was a beautiful column dress between these two women.

Do love the color, though.

(Movie Review Thread) I just saw Peter Jackson's new film They Shall Not Grow Old, a documentary on World War I. The film is technically breathtaking, but I was shocked to see a film on WWI that is completely apolitical. It's about political mass slaughter but it avoids politics!
They Shall Not Grow Old does not even try to explain why WWI was fought — let alone why it was an entirely preventable, pointless inter-imperialist bloodbath that led to the unnecessary deaths of tens of millions of (almost entirely poor) people!
Instead the whole point of the film is to humanize the soldiers fighting in WWI and show what day-to-day life was for them. And that's great; it's important to see the mind-boggling horrors of WWI and trench warfare. But that must be done *in historical and political context*.

Question for folks familiar with #LGBTQ+ research, particularly on life trajectories: A lot of researchers seem obsessed with the notion that childhood gender non-conformity (GNC) is tied to being gay (or in some cases trans) as an adult... #science #psychology #sex #research
While certainly true in some cases, many LGBTQ+ adults were not GNC during childhood. These latter cases are usually ignored/viewed as anomalies, probably b/c they don't fit the "sexual inversion" model (e.g., feminized/masculinized brain) that many researchers still cling to...
...anyway, I'm compiling research/evidence that suggests an alternative model, namely, that GNC children are more likely to recognize&embrace that they are LGBTQ+ earlier in part b/c they behave different from same-assigned-gender peers, receive more scrutiny from adults/peers...
