If you are going to be racist, have the courage to own your racism.
It's actually sad to want in to a club you're almost in, but not quite, like you have nearly everything a WASP has, but you're Catholic.

It's about what "people" think & "they" say or "their" opinions. The writer distances himself from views that are still very clearly his.
