These options could be phased-in over time. Advocates think the best place to start is an option for individuals who are uninsured and are locked out of public coverage, ACA Marketplace coverage, and affordable employer coverage. nmlegis.gov/handouts/LHHS%…
This is the option that advocates think we should pursue in the coming legislative session.
This would help people who are locked out of coverage today and provide benefits that are comparable to the ACA for this population. Once we get more people covered, the buy-in option could be expanded to more people through one of the other options.
About 80,000 people would be eligible for the Targeted Medicaid Buy-In option. Many of these individuals are uninsured and would finally have an affordable option for their family. This would be a huge step forward for New Mexico. #nmleg
