Here's what I'm waiting for: the pushback from law enforcement. I'm waiting for cops from around the country who are generally conservative in their politics to speak up and say we don't want criminals in the White House any more than we do on the streets of our towns and cities.
/ If you're related to or friends with a cop and that cop didn't have Trump pegged as a criminal two seconds after he announced his run for president, with all due respect you're not related to or friends with a very competent cop. I don't think many cops would disagree with me.
/ I worked in the justice system for years. I came across hundreds of cops. Nearly all seemed especially proud of their ability to spot a troublemaker anywhere on their beat. They saw it as part of their job and what made them good at it. Trump reeks of trouble and they know it.
/ One thing that prompted me to write this thread was a caller to the SiriusXM program of @ChrisCuomo, who represented himself as a cop sick of seeing criminal behavior in and around the White House and—presumably—Trump dragging law enforcement repeatedly. But I *am* a realist.
/ I *don't* think cops have special BS detectors, I think *they* think they do and are proud of—in their view—never letting a perp put one over on them. But I agree—that wouldn't be enough to make them speak up. I did think that *plus* Trump dragging law enforcement would do it.
/ Those replying to this thread saying they ALWAYS knew cops would support a criminal presidency run by a man who attacks cops relentlessly are I think being a bit disingenuous. This presidency is a matter of first impression—we're learning in real time how people respond to it.
/ I also think that anyone who speaks of cops monolithically is not seeing that, the "thin blue line" notwithstanding—and ample evidence of bad policing nationwide notwithstanding—there is not much reason for cops to have much loyalty to political chameleon Trump *specifically*.
/ Today we're at a certain point in the Trump-Russia investigation. 60 days from now we'll be at a distinctly different point. And every 60 days thereafter. At each "marker," we can expect at least the *possibility* that one or more groups that has backed Trump will abandon him.
