1/A decade ago, I took my first device-free, solitude experience.

Ten years and 100s of “solos” later, I can say with confidence that if I could give any bit of advice to my younger me it would be to spend at least one day a week in device-free solitude.

I think in 2019 I want to spend more time studying languages, reading, writing, and less time fighting Nazis.

Which means I'll probably spend all year fighting Nazis.
A thing I do from time to time is check in on Brad Griffin's "blog," because I often wonder if his content can get any lower quality.

His posts are nothing but embedded tweets now. I just looked at one post. It came in at 84 words of his original content, and 6 embedded tweets.

1. I happened to listen to @NPR for a few hours this morning, and I heard three stories that are very much connected to #climatechange without anyone on the radio mentioning climate change even once.

It was surreal and disturbing.

2. The first story was about the current drought in Oregon. It focused on a rancher who is currently paying to have 18,000 gallons of water a day trucked in to water his livestock. (Yes, you read that right.)
3. The story discussed how much this water and its transport was costing the rancher; how long this drought has affected ranching in the West; and what the ranchers might do if the weather doesn't eventually return to normal (as if it would one day return to normal).

The news on our side of the world is fundamentally grim these days, but at least I can shed some light on people's lives that are fundamentally grimmer.

This is Hebron in the West Bank.
Hebron is the home of one of Islam's holy sites, the Ibrahimi Mosque.
It also happens to be a Jewish holy site named after Abraham as well.

Before I leave this account, I'd like to share some final thoughts. As you may know, global temperatures have been gradually increasing since the Industrial Revolution, primary driven by a greenhouse effect caused by increasing atmospheric CO2 from human activity. #climatechange
Greenhouse gas emissions have many sources - some of which are natural, but most are the result of human actions like deforestation, burning fossil fuels, and agriculture. Certain soil cultivation practices, fertilizer use, and livestock are significant contributors to GH gases.
Red meat in particular, lamb and beef, contribute significantly more greenhouses gases per pound of meat produced than other other source of food. One pound of beef generates more CO2 than 1 gallon of gasoline burned.
