I wrote a bunch of horribly awkward code, then deleted it and replaced it with eight lines of SQL (max width 64 chars). Greetings from 1974.

Codd didn't live to see MongoDB, but dude was prone to saltiness and I suspect he would've been Very Mad.
Imagine that you invent and publicly describe a very good way of computering. Then you watch Larry Ellison make $60b by selling a bad way of computering that he claims is an implementation of your good way of computering. Now your good thing is buried under his bad thing.

There are basically two camps in that thread.

1) This is the original maintainer's fault for transferring ownership to someone they didn't know and trust.
2) Ownership transfer was fine; it's your job to vet all of the code you run.
Option 2 (vet all dependencies) is obviously impossible. Last I looked, a new create-react-app had around a thousand dependencies, all moving fast and breaking things.

An npm module named husky destructively added pre- and post-commit hooks to my dotfiles repo (literally ~/.git!). Or maybe some other module told it to do that. I never asked for that. I don't understand why the JavaScript tool ecosystem is like this!

One of the biggest selling points during the rise of dynamic languages was that they lacked complex, fragile build processes. Fast-forward 15 years and the most popular dynamic language has build tooling more complex and fragile than many static languages. Time is a flat circle.
btw I wrote this while waiting *six minutes* for the dev dependencies to install for a very small library that I use

Mobile phone numbers, addresses, private family conversations, vacation pictures, bills, communications between politicians, work emails etc. were leaked
In most cases, Outlook was hacked, in some cases also Facebook, Twitter etc.

The leaked data, which was illegally collected until October 2018 and released December 2018, but just found now, is still publicly available.
I searched through it 5 hours last night, read maybe 3%of it and already found cases of corruption and bad political scandals.

UCC had opportunity to comment on the #Data.Protection & Privacy Bill. The enactment of this law is long overdue. A comprehensive law on the collection & processing personal information gives effect to the right to Privacy envisaged under Article 27(2) of the Constitution
UCC welcome the protections offered by the Bill in terms of export of data, breach notification requirements, data subjects access rights, automated decision making, compensation and the right to be forgotten and provision for financial and penal sanctions for breach of the law.
Distinction between Data collectors & data controllers.
The Bill should however clarify & distinguish Data Collectors, from Data Processors & Data Controllers. Clause 2 is inconsistent with international good practice which provides for two broad categories of Data Controllers

#UPDATE on Smile Communications service outage. At an arbitration meeting between Smile Communications & Eaton Towers held at UCC, the meeting resolved administrative issues that recently affected the delivery of communication services to Smile customers.

In an arbitration meeting between the two Smile Communications and Eaton Towers (infrastructure provider), it was agreed to reconnect all Smile sites that had been previously switched off to the benefit of all stakeholders concerned & this was done even before the meeting ended.
The parties to the arbitration agreed to sign a temporary addendum to allow re-connection and service restoration pending conclusion of the ongoing negotiations for a new service provisioning agreement.
