But government does agree to #CSAinquiry recommendation to set up scheme to pay compensation to all UK surviving former child migrants on basis that all were exposed to risk of abuse. Gvt to unveil details of “ex-gratia” payments “shortly”. 8/12
Since #CSAinquiry recommendation on March 1 on UK former child migrants, government accepts some of them have since died. It commits to making ex-gratia payments to their families. Better late, etc... 9/12
Ministry of Justice accepts #CSAinquiry recommendation to allow people refused criminal injuries compensation before 1979 under “same roof” rule (ie continued to live with attacker as members of same family) to re-apply. 10/12
Civil courts have agreed to consider #CSAinquiry recommendation in interim report to give same protections to those suing over child sexual abuse as in criminal courts. Meanwhile, a claimant can still be cross-examined by alleged abuser in civil court. 11/12
Gvt accepted, two months after #CSAinquiry recommendation in interim report, that UK should ratify Lanzarote Convention on protection of children against sexual exploitation or abuse. So, despite appearances, #CSAinquiry is not a complete waste of time. 12/12
