As Trump's temper tantrum continues, some are suggesting the impacts of a shutdown will be minimal.

In 2013, I was part of the team at OMB that managed the shutdown, and I can assure you the #TrumpShutdown will impact millions of people across the country. Thread 👇
For starters, it means 420,000 people will be working over the holidays without being paid, including the Secret Service agents protecting Trump and his entire family. Another 380,000 workers will be sent home without pay /2

While people hear "federal worker" and think of someone in DC, nearly 80% of the fed workforce live outside of the DC area. Many are counting on this paycheck to help cover necessities and holiday expenses.

So what happens when they're sent home? /3

"More than 30 million small businesses would no longer have access to federally assisted loans and technical assistance since Small Business Administration guarantees to back loans would freeze." /4

"The Federal Housing Administration will likely see significant delays in loan processing and approvals, meaning any new homeowners may be placed on standby, and payments to roughly 3,000 public housing agencies will be delayed." /5

Trump's absurd tariffs will make the shutdown even worse. "Manufacturers and importers seeking Commerce Department exclusions from steel and aluminum tariffs will face additional delays if there is a partial government shutdown." /6

Farm service centers around the country would close, which "would leave farmers unable to receive assistance in signing up for new programs under the recently passed Farm Bill." /7

Trump would keep parks open even though there aren't enough park personnel to "provide visitor services, including restrooms, collecting trash and plowing roads." Less staff would also make it harder to keep people, and the parks themselves, safe. /8

These are just *some* impacts of a shutdown. If it extends longer, things get worse as agencies run out of money.

And this doesn't account for unexpected issues - and trust me, they will arise. Would you trust this team to handle them? /End
