@RadReduction @wingod @mrchrisadams @keithalexander @runclimbskibike @bareftdoctor @KevinClimate @BloombergNEF Yes, I see vast potpourri of opportunities for economically viable climate action. Many of them don't require carbon prices, though carbon prices would accelerate their uptake. I haven't modelled by how much, not my problem. If this enrages you, also not my problem.
@RadReduction @wingod @mrchrisadams @keithalexander @runclimbskibike @bareftdoctor @KevinClimate @BloombergNEF What I know, because its obvious, is that focusing on accelerating the development and deployment of economically viable solutions will lead to a less-worse outcome than taking absolutist positions, wittering on about rationing, and alienating the business & investment community.
@RadReduction @wingod @mrchrisadams @keithalexander @runclimbskibike @bareftdoctor @KevinClimate @BloombergNEF It's Paris vs Copenhagen. You want to go back to Copenhagen, demand binding, top-down carbon budgets be agreed by all countries, that is a failed approach. Paris, voluntary commitments, may be messy and less satisfying, but it's having a massive impact.
@RadReduction @wingod @mrchrisadams @keithalexander @runclimbskibike @bareftdoctor @KevinClimate @BloombergNEF And yes, I know the Paris commitments don't get to 2C, let alone 1.5C, that they add to over 3C. But they are based on current technologies. I'll guarantee you that as innovations come to market, leaders will up their commitments. We will get to 2.5C, maybe 2C, but not 1.5C.
@RadReduction @wingod @mrchrisadams @keithalexander @runclimbskibike @bareftdoctor @KevinClimate @BloombergNEF Again, if this enrages you, please go away, it's not my problem. I'm not promising everything is going to be all right. I'm describing what I believe is a roadmap to the least-worst outcome. If you don't like it, talk to your leaders, don't blame me. And think about adaptation.
