First, and I have said this before, Donald Trump did not win in 2016. At least not in a sense that had anything to do with voters, or votes.
1/
He won because Republican Governors & Secretary of States in several states betrayed their citizens.
2/
He won because our greatest foreign adversary utilized technology to author lies to promote him and undermine @HillaryClinton.
3/
I believe these things.
That being true I don't believe that Donald Trump can win 2020.
4/
That is UNLESS those same external forces reconvene and are allowed to carry out the same crimes against our Republic.
If this happens there is nothing that Democracy can do by itself. Our votes won't matter. Tweets won't matter. Protests won't matter.
5/
It would mean that the American republic is truly dead.
6/
I knew then that a Democrat would win the Presidency. So it mattered who we nominated. It mattered b/c the success or failures, the shortcomings or excesses of that administration would define the Party for decades.
7/
We must be the cure, not just another variant of the disease.
I believe that Sanders exhibits many of the same faults and instincts as Trump.
8/
That would not be good for the party or the nation.
In which case I would argue that a third option must created & embraced.
