There’s a Nigerian book to be written about the bitter contests for siting of State/LGA capitals, and major Infrastructure. Like how underdog Asaba beat Warri for capital of Delta; and the Warri-SW LGA HQ tussle that caused much ethnic bloodshed in the late 90s/early 2000s.
There’s an apocryphal story about how UI (the Premier one not the other one) was originally to be sited in Abeokuta but someone was scared the intelleshuahs would steal his wives and said no and so the founders tried Ibadan and Ibadan was game bla di bla. LOL.
Zungeru lost title of capital of Northern Region to the virgin town of Kaduna (by virgin I mean the Kaduna we know today was established by Lord Lugard. Ditto PH, Lokoja, Enugu - all of them, as we know them today, were essentially British creations, unlike Ibadan,Lagos, Calabar)
