“Big Brother is watching”

Bruce Munro of ODT wrote an article that came across as a strikingly apologetic whitewash of the Surveillance Police State Creep (US/UK style) that the NZ govt has welcomed with one-eyed enthusiasm, as well as corporate exploitation of personal data.
In his article printed on 27 Dec 2018 in NZH, Munro implies its OK that the Police and the NZ govt spy on ordinary people who have not committed any crime - because they are “protecting us”.

Hello. 🙄😏 That’s been the excuse of totalitarian regimes for umpteen decades.
Lets put our critical thinking caps on.

How can you have any kind of liberty of thought or action if the state is spying directly (or indirectly through other state spies or crony internet companies or contractors etc) on everything you say or do?
Arguably far worse than the voracious appetite of govt Peeping Toms who spy on innocent citizenry (thereby undermining our freedom of speech, thought, and action) - there is the exploitative spying and manipulation of data 👉🏼 to brain wash us —> by online internet and other corps
I challenge you to easily find Munro’s article - let alone the many former images that portrayed brain washing by the media if you do a Google search.

This is because Munro is right.
Google isn’t a search engine - its a paid, agenda driven, advertising/marketing/Dirty PR agent.
We have become sucked into getting information from the internet (which originally appeared to have been performing the role of independent public interest media) but has instead become an untrustworthy, agenda driven, brain-washing monster & censor of free speech & free thought.
Try doing a search on Google vs other internet browsers for issues related to Clinton v Trump.

What you’ll likely find is a blatantly partisan results.

This is not limited to elites.

Ordinary grass roots folk who dare challenge establishment elite claims, or info -are buried.
Munro has very superficially (and IMO grossly inadequately) pointed out internet provider and corporate spying (but inadequately touched on the implication of how the control of information via internet is being used to control opinons & actions)

His article was not easily found
Munro appears to regard the EU to be a model for privacy.😏

But the EU’s “right to be forgotten” law insures elites and corporations can demand any negative comments about them be scrubbed from the internet 👉🏼to foil attempts to use facts to counter false narratives.
So on one hand we have various states and corps spying on us to control and manipulate us.

And we also have states writing laws that allow the dastardly deeds of elites and corporations to be scrubbed from history, while they write their preferred version.

It’s sick & dangerous
