I have not said anything uplifting or funny or insightful about the ending year. Nor am I going to until 12:01, because I don’t trust this bastard.
I think I would feel better if we could symbolically slay the year in some fashion. Like instead of this old man/happy baby thing, the year started as a fuzzy lamb or something and turned into this monstrous, gnarled beast and we had to send a couple heroes to slay it.
Some years, eh, they’re probably going out fine on their own, but I swear I can feel 2018 stalking around the neighborhood, testing the locks.

Hey internet, are there any GOOD home DNA testing companies out there? Like, 23andMe is selling info to drug companies and I’ve heard you’d have better luck with a dartboard and a map than Ancestry—anybody out there not shady as hell?
(Please note that I am mostly curious about my own ancestry, since my family had wandering feet and skipped town a lot, and have less than no interest in finding long lost family.)
(Like, if I have a long lost whatever out there, they can stay lost with my blessing. I do not need to be drawn into someone else’s emotional need vortex.)

*I use this term a lot and people don’t know what I am talking about.

Spiritual Condition manifests as compassion, forgiveness, empathy, gratitude, generosity. It’s not those things though. It the feeling of wholeness, safety, strength, connectedness, appreciation.
For many humans, spiritual condition is something that happens to them. An accident. “I’m having a good day today!”

Same with bad days. “Everyone is a jerk!” “I’m so unlucky!”

This serves many purposes, mainly that your spiritual condition becomes someone else’s fault.

Having finished The Authoritarians, it's time to start a new thread of #IanLivetweetsHisResearch. Today I am finally getting past the introduction of How Propaganda Works by Jason Stanley.
Having slogged through some proper academic writing in my day, Stanley's writing is blessedly accessible. But after Altemeyer's light tone and constant dad jokes, Stanley's reads as pretty dry.
So far the introduction is full of a lot of quotations about the nature of democracy, from Victor Klemperer to Elizabeth Anderson to Plato. OF COURSE Plato.
