2) yes it's true that the £39b bill is a condition of May's deal, but we're not "buying" May's deal with that £39b, it simply reflects the amount we agreed to pay on future EU commitments

3) there seems to be the general feeling in Brexiters that the £39b is some kind of "no deal" dividend, and of course we couldn't be directly forced to pay, but the reality is the rest of the world would just see the UK as a dishonourable bad actor who reneges on its commitments
4) this is one of those nationalist vs patriot tipping points. A nationalist doesn't care what the world thinks of the UK because they're all foriners desperate to do a deal with us.
