#WeAreDanielBlake my story? Was a charge nurse in the acute renal services and transplant unit. Collapsed at work. Bed ridden 5 years. My health has never recovered. Now wheelchair dependent 1.
I live in fear of the brown envelopes coming in the post. Got one yesterday which at first read looked like they were stooping my benefit
Took half an hour for the panic ( & tears ) to subside to realise it wasn't
#WeAreDanielBlake 2.
The DWP is a regime of terror
There's no other way to describe it.
However I count myself lucky - lucky to have a life shortening, progressive illness.
How bad is that?
#WeAreDanielBlake 3.
I didn't feel lucky when I was diagnosed. I don't feel lucky to have ever worsening mobility and capabilities
However I know that I am lucky know that, up to now, the DWP haven't stopped my benefit

I'll tell you something else. 13 years ago after fighting for the right to long term permitted work for nearly 3 years, I got permission! I couldn't do much but it gave me a purpose. I'd worked since I was 13

Brought up to believe I had to earn my own way in life. A belief I was happy to carry on.
Then 6 years later they took away that permission because I had to move to look after my dad #WeAreDanielBlake 6.
Yet again I was more than happy to help him. He was a wonderful dad.
Unfortunately during the next 4 years my health deteriorated even further, to the point that I really can't work at all #WeAreDanielBlake 7.
Until 2010 I did voluntary work but I am not even allowed or able to do that now.
You really don't know what it's like to be dependent on the state. People who didn't know me before, discount me, as if I am worth nothing,
#WeAreDanielBlake 8.
Much like the DWP & the state. People like me are seen as " at it - scroungers ".
It hurts!
I used to save lives!
But I still feel lucky - for the moment
#WeAreDanielBlake 9
I don't know what my financial future holds, but I fear the worst, and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.
End of rant.
Thanks for reading

P.S . Once the full impact of Brexit hits, I'm certain the disabled & chronically ill will be the first to be flung under the proverbial bus
P.P.S. please excuse the typos. I started crying while I was tweeting that. Wimp!
