The #InternetShutdown in #DRCDecides2018 has triggered 2 related fears. One is that the govt of @Plaid_Kabila has a “plan to obscure the truth of the ballot box” & the other is that there'll be serious violence (PEV), once manipulated results are announced

Gombe State's @HEDankwambo employed 32 y.o John Okon to work in the Gov's residence in Kaduna. 8 Nov 2018, 4 TV sets were stolen from the premises. @PoliceNG arrested Mr. Okon & 4 othrs 9 Nov. 5 days later, they'd tortured him to death. This is his story

Mr. Okon's wife, Joy, was very pregnant. They lived together within the premises of the Governor’s private residence located along Pola Road, off Swimming Pool Road, in Kaduna. The pemises had 2 uniformed @PoliceNG guards & 2 other guards from a private security provider
On 8 Nov, 4 theatre TV Cinemas were discovered missing from the premises. There were only 3 ways to explain this: the burglars by-passed the guards or overpowered them or, alternatively, the guards did it. On 8 Nov, however, the police arrested the 4 guards & Mr. Okon

#Nigeria''s @MBuhari has begun moves to officially extend the tenure of Ibrahim Idris as Inspector-General of @PoliceNG. Under Service Rules, Idris shd have retired on the 35th anniv of his enlistment, 3 Jan but has continued to run the police regardless.

s. 215(1)(a) of #Nigeria's constitution says: an Inspector-General of @PoliceNG shall be appointed by the President on advice of the Police Council from among serving members of the NPF.

IGP Idris can't be lawfully extended cos he's no longer serving & Police Council hasn't met.
s. 216(2) of the Constitution is v clear: "Before making any appointment to the office of the Inspector-General of @PoliceNG or removing him from office the President shall consult the Nigeria Police Council." A meeting of the Police Council is mandatory pre-condition.

The announcement of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, son of the much missed Étienne Tshisekedi as provisional winner of the recent elections and next President of the DRC shows that #DynasticPolitics in #Africa is alive not just in ruling parties but also in opposition movements

The Kabilas have ruled the DRC since 1997 - outgoing President @Plaid_Kabila, succeeded his Dad, Laurent-Désiré Kabila

Botswana's last President, Iain Khama is the son of the founding President, Seretse Khama
Gabon has endured nearly 52 yrs of rule by 1st Omar Bongo (for 42 yrs from 1967-2009) & since then by his son →Ali Bongo

It starts off with an intro related to the "hell doesn't exist" controversy which is - IMHO - a storm in a teacup. It was reported by Eugenio Scalfari, a "left-wing atheist" who is also the pope's "friend". Slightly odd already...
The interview is not recorded, merely relayed. The suggestion is that he misrepresents the pope in interviews but he has been invited back year on year. So that's crap - it's a deflection. It's a way for Francis to say 'uncatholic' things and sow confusion and division.

My dad is an amazing dad for so many reasons. He loves me. He teaches me with so much wisdom. He always believes in me and wants me to achieve what I set out to strive for. All the normal great stuff about a dad.
Over the past couple of years, culminating in the past month or so, I’ve come to realize that his greatest strengths are ones I didn’t appreciate as much. Or, in some cases, felt annoyed by.

I keep seeing the point made that Jacob Rees-Mogg's opinions on abortion are the orthodox Catholic view and there are 5.7m Catholics in UK.
This is an example of a common mistake, which is to take a religion's orthodox teaching and associate it with all the self-avowed adherents.
This is absolute bollocks. It's bollocks in general, but it's bollocks on stilts in a secular country with freedom of religion like the UK.
