So journalists doing stories after printing views of every side in the #Aadhaar debate is labelled as "activism". As if "activism" is a bad thing. But, here are a few questions for @Product_Nation and it's volunteers #Thread
1. Is it a #Conflict of #Interest when you use public money to build a system and then create or join private corporations to draw business from that very system?
2. Can you serve as a GoI employee and also serve on boards, companies that are drawing knowledge, business, profits from what you are building from inside the Government? #Aadhaar #CronyCapitalism
3. If your presence inside the government gives you inside knowledge and advantage when you start your own start up, is it still a level playing field for everyone else in the same business? #Aadhaar
4. #Aadhaar was being built for a public purpose - targeted delivery of subsidies and plugging leaks in welfare schemes. When did it become about business and how many of you knew you are building that business using public resources?
5. Some of you "evangelizing" #Aadhaar said on camera that you can't innovate when you are under the Right To Information Act and CAG audit. How does @isro achieve such fantastic stuff under the same conditions? Why does transparency and accountability bother you?
6. If you really want to build your businesses on the personal and sensitive data of citizens, then why did you join the Government? Why did you use laws to extract that data and force citizens into signing up? #Aadhaar
7. As iSPIRT volunteers you want to "rub in" the Supreme Court judgement against those who opposed it, but you didn't have time to agitate over the lack of personal data protection and privacy laws? Amendments to access #Aadhaar data more important?
8. You have been falsifying data about apparent savings of public money, but where is your data about the profits you have made, the start ups you have mentored, the information you have passed on to investors? #Aadhaar
9. You have built a #mass #surveillance system, to protect which the government even claimed that Indians don't have full rights over their bodies. That's #privacy is not a fundamental right. Where are your letters and blogs of protest against Big Government?
10. If your tech is so good and revolutionary, then why aren't other democracies asking you to build similar systems for their citizens? And if they are, who are they? #Aadhaar
11. One of your founder "volunteers", @Product_Nation released a full-page front page advertisement a day after #demonetisation. It hit the Indian economy, claimed lives & thousands lost jobs. But you are still celebrating going "cashless"? Is that your idea of innovation?
12. And why does @Product_Nation still claim on its website that it offers access to policy makers to make "ideas" into reality. What and who gave you such access? #Aadhaar
13. I will continue to ask questions on this #thread and engage in a dialogue, @Product_Nation. But I hope you will provide answers and be as transparent and as accountable as you want citizens to be under a #surveillance system such as #Aadhaar. Thank you.
