Reader sends a photo of trucks coming into the U.S. backed up “for miles” at the Pembina, ND border crossing. Says it’s shutdown related, they usually have several gates open but there’s just one today
My understanding is CBP is supposed to stay open but they might be dealing with sick-outs by this point if they’re not getting paid
Reader says the wait was two hours. Website for the Pembina crossing has no info because, well, you know

Two polls conducted a year apart with completely different question wordings show slightly different levels of support for legalization in New York (62% vs 56%) and this is how the nation's leading anti-legalization group tries to frame it.
The problem for opponents of marijuana commercialization: there is no institutional voice making a sensible, evidence-based case for the workable alternatives.
The money opposed to legalization is going to people and groups rooted in an 80s/90s mindset, which has really been a gift for legalization: compared to that, commercial legalization is completely reasonable.

On Oct 26 2006 Congress passed The Secure Fence Act 120 STAT. 2638 PUBLIC LAW 109–367 with 283 votes in the House & 80 in the Senate, including unanimous Democratic support. This included $20 billion in funding for multi layer fencing along about 600 miles of the US-Mexico border
This wasn't a solid 600 miles of continuous fencing along the border, this was bits and pieces, mostly erected with surplus Marston Mats used by the Military to laydown in areas that the ground isn't solid enough to handle landing gear, the military has mountains of it.
in 2007 Congress made clear it didn't really mean what it said. The new law was amended to make fence building optional. so you ended up with very little fencing and $20 billion pretty much unaccounted for, dispersed to heavens knows where. No one was held accountable for the $$

Ethnonationalist populists try to make rational debate over immigration policy impossible by misconceiving the subject of immigration policy as the technocratic social engineering of the national population. You have to understand their use of "open borders" in that context.
Thus, to accuse Democrats of pursuing a "crusade for open borders," as Santa Monica Goebbels has done, is just to say that they don't consider national ethnic hygiene a legitimate policy goal, and aren't willing to be confused about the proper subject of immigration policy.
