Tory MP Richard Drax: "We will manage because we're a great country. And we will survive."
Again, note the relentless downgrading of expectation from everything-for-everyone to bare survival.
But one other thing. This constant refrain about us being "a great country". Yes, we are. But that did not happen because of some sort of mystic religious destiny.
It happened because we were level-headed, pragmatic and used practical judgement in politics. We didn't just run around setting fire to everything because we had a dream in our heart about how wonderful we were.
The shit these twatbuckets are pulling is diametrically opposed the quality of what they want to achieve.
Now Tory MP Steve Double, the merciless slayer of brain cells. A one-man IQ reduction meachine.
Fucking Christ above us, these imbeciles. Like a human pond of conspiracy theory, half-understood argument and horseshit.
He just seriously made the point that the People's Vote campaign undermined the prime minister and that's why she came back with a bad deal. Yeah that'll be it mate. Towering power of analysis.
Good to see Tom Watson at the despatch box.
Principled, logical, moral. We don't see enough of him.
"She cannot confuse pity for political legitimacy". Ouch,
That was brilliant from Watson. Perfect judged, in content and delivery.
Michael Gove: "It has been a passionate debate characterised by many excellent speeches." False on every level.
Some fucking drama going down right now, as Gove mercilessly prises Watson apart from Corbyn. Watson's eyes boring into him like he's planning his revenge in real time.
Gove is absolutely savage. He's quite brilliant at the despatch box. Imagine, we could live in a world with this standard of Commons debate all the time.
Gove paints a pretty picture of a country that does not exist, where everything is absolutely fine, the economy is booming, business is ecstatic, and all the money is being ploughed into social justice.
It is false in every conceivable way. But to hear him say it, you'd have thought it was all true.
Theresa May looks like a political corpse.
Must be appalling, having to sit there and watch someone do it so much better.
Division. Voting now on this pointless shitshow.
Fwiw I suspect Gove is more of a Hague figure - great in the Commons, but would come across as weird in the other public-facing elements of the party leader job.
May survives. 325 votes to 306.
May's up with a point of order. She will "continue" her work. Fucked if I know what that is.
Meetings with "senior parliamentarians" will continue. Meetings with leaders of all the parties, starting tonight.
Very good from Blackford for SNP. Commits party to working with May, but says the issue of extending Article 50, a People's Vote and avoiding no-deal "have to be on the table".
Davey for Lib Dems says prepared to work with her, but demands she rules out no-deal.
Nigel Dodds for DUP now. Says the vote shows the importance of "confidence and supply". God he's slippery.
Imagine being proud of what you've done in his position. Just imagine. Crippling a government in the only thing it is doing and preventing it from being replaced. Like putting a country on life-support.
House adjourns for a debate on car production in Solihull. Another day of stasis-chaos passes. One step closer to the sweet release of death.
