Maybe it's time to put together a deal we could call "Remain+"?

Basically we stay in the EU, but go through all the thousands of EU laws and rules forensically, examining every single thing we've chosen not to implement to date. For example, we can tighten FOM just by applying

existing rules. Do the same thing for every sector and we might find various useful things we could implement.

Combine that with a big, bold package of public works projects, targetted at the regions and all parts of the UK. Make it magically £39 billion worth. We know it's not

actually a remain dividend, but the perception is there (and yes, whisper it quietly, we might have to borrow more to pay for it).

Toss in a brand new Equalising Committee, a cross-party grouping responsible for monitoring public expenditure to make sure it's less London-centric

and you've got the makings of something that's "better" than the status quo.

These are just a few ideas to kick the notion off. Please jump in with your own suggestions. It would be great to get productive conversations going.

Also to note that Remain+ could involve doing things that Governments will hate but people will like, such as actually complying with the EU environment regulations we keep on getting taken to court over. Make the UK a more pleasant place to live.

And a really dangerous sub idea: include a bold new offer to Scotland to blunt the understandable ardour for independence, and strengthen the Union.

One more notion: a guarantee to follow up Government scandals until they're finally resolved ie long after they drop out of the headlines. Again, perhaps a role for a different cross-party grouping. It would hold the Government's feet to the fire to resolve things (eg Windrush).
