1) Strategery. Remember that word? It is a fucking wonderful word. Really, it is one of the most fantastic words around.

Its meaning, if you forgot, is basing your tactics not around winning your strategic objectives, but by making your opponent unable to complete theirs.

2) In chess, the goal of a grandmaster is not to checkmate your king. Their goal is to bait their opponents high level pieces out to be captured so that their opponent has no way of checkmating THEIR king. Then the grandmaster can win at their leisure.

3) Trump is making a speech in which he's going to offer a deal. Chances are, it will not be for DACA, though if its not he will doubtlessly mention his attempts to offer a Wall-for-DACA deal last year that were rejected. DACA is a knight piece in the Democrats' platform captured

4) Are the Democrats going to take this deal? No. Pelosi will not take any deal. She doesn't want to even be in the same country during the shutdown.

5) Trump's play will be to offer another piece of the pie. He's already signaled it won't be anything on abortion, and probably lined up his announcement for after the March For Life to keep dumbassed right-wing outlets from committing the same fake news fraud the left did.

7) Here's how the wall negotiations are going to go. Unless the Democrats crack far sooner than expected, which is possible as the elections are looming and pressure within the Democrats is boiling over enough that the moderates may abandon ship...

8) Trump is going to sweeten the pot one by one with tweets, speeches, and announcements. Part of Pelosi trying to scuttle the SOTU may very well be that she doesn't want this kind of deal being aired nationwide, because the Democrats' counter-speech would seem even more deranged

9) Each of these offers is intended to be rejected. That's the point. The value will be on paper 2:1 in favor of the Democrats, and they will each be rejected in turn. "I'll approve 10 billion to be earmarked for pet projects in their home states, for a $5 billion wall." Rejected

10) "I'll set up a $10 billion investment for startup green energy companies looking to make our energy grid more environmentally friendly." Rejected.

11) "10 million approved DACA beneficiaries and other qualifying individuals given residency." Rejected.

12) The speech in what is 4 hours from now will just be the first salvo in a long back and forth in which the Democrats are forced to either a) Give in to Trump and break their base permanently, or b) Reject their platform piece by piece and break their base permanently.

13) And WHY is he doing this NOW rather than last year during those budget negotiations? What ELSE is happening right now?

14) Because the Democrat party has already had 6 candidates announced or forming exploratory committees, with more on the way. And now each of them had to engage in Russian Roulette over wall funding, and responding to each offer.

Hillary Clinton thought the answer was to pick her opponent. This is a great idea until you pick wrong.

You win by turning their primary into a complete fucking clownshow where no one comes out clean.
