I want to take a moment to talk about a certain cycle that seems to keep occurring with the Women's March in regards to antisemitism. This is going to be a thread.
Part 1 of the Cycle: A Women's March national team member says something antisemitic. Tamika calls Jews enemies of Christ. Linda uses coded language to imply progressive Jews aren't loyal to America. Bob helps the former two spread conspiracy theories about the ADL.
Part 2: There is controversy as Jews speak out. Friends and supporters of the national team members jump in to harass Jews. Some of these friends and allies are regularly antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ yet the WM leaders, supposedly leaders of a progressive movement promote them.
Part 3: As the March catches flak for what they've said/done & media pressure builds, pro-WM think pieces come out. And this is the part that I really want to focus on. These pieces, although written by different people, all seem to have one common thematic element:
"Jews speaking out about antisemitism are white supremacists/right-wingers/foreign Zionists/Russian agents/[insert your own personal pet theory about untrustworthy Jews here]." Think of all the think pieces you've read. Brenna's. Karen's. Jodi's. All of them revolve around this.
In all these pieces, the national team's completely blameless. The most they're guilty of's a tenuous connection to a certain completely irrelevant religious figure, why are we even still talking about him when we can be talking about the other antisemites we're ok w/criticizing?
In these pieces, there's never any mention of how national team members promote bishops who believe in gay conversion therapy, ministers who think American Jews are loyal to Netanyahu and the Israeli rabbinate, friends who think Farrakhan has proof of how Jews are evil, & so on.
There's usually no mention of antisemitic statements that members of the Women's March national team have said themselves, their spreading of anti-Jewish conspiracy theories and canards, their deliberate goading of the Jewish community over the span of a year.
Yes, the majority of the time these pieces are just an excuse to throw in the authors' own casual antisemitism. Jacobin's "Why do (((global elites))) hate the Women's March?" Brenna's "Why are Jews crucifying our leaders?" Karen's "Could Jews speaking up be foreign agents?"
Then there's the authors of these pieces. While they'll never promote this in their actual piece, the authors always just happen to be someone w/ close ties to Women's March national team members. Batya's constant pro-WM pieces? She wants to provide cover for her friend Sophie.
Karen of "Jews are working for Russia" infamy? She's coincidentally leading a workshop later today where Linda Sarsour will just happen to be at to "be petty" (in Linda's own words) about the Jews who've criticized them.
Jodi Jacobson, who just yesterday wrote an article claiming that the Jewish community's waging a "profound war" on black people and PoC, an article that Linda made sure to publicize? Leader in the PR firm the WM hired to contact journalists to kill the Tablet story on the WM.
Brenna, claimed she wasn't officially affiliated with the team and was just promoting a local WM team's statement that she had nothing to do with, also somehow felt free to edit that team's "Jews are crucifying the WM" statement when it made the WM look worse.
And that is the cycle. The Women's March is antisemitic. They get criticized. Friends of the national team harass Jews. Allies of the national team write antisemitic pieces absolving the Women's March. The members of the national team promote these pieces.
The Women's March national team claims they're not antisemitic. They claim they're allies to Jews. They continue to say antisemitic things, hang out with antisemitic people, promote antisemitic public figures.
Jews speak up against the continuing antisemitism and they, along with anyone else who dares criticize the Women's March on this topic, get slandered. The WM national team portrays themselves, once again, as the victims, enabled by the Karens and Brennas and Jodis of the world.
They'll call Jews the enemies of Christ. They'll say Jews are more loyal to a foreign entity than we are to our own country. They'll say that we're the secret force behind the murder of minorities. They'll, ironically, say the exact same things white supremacists say about Jews.
And then they'll march behind a Jewish banner at their event. They'll laud themselves for having the generosity to say "See, Jews, even though you've spent months criticizing us for things we've said and done against you, we'll deign ourselves to this."
And nothing will change. Tamika will still praise antisemites. Linda will still make snide, coded comments about Jews. Cassady will still write pieces about how Jews are white supremacists. Sophie will still spend more time criticizing Jews than she will criticizing antisemites.
The cycle will continue in its seemingly never-ending circle as the Women's March enablers allow them to once again get away with it.
