Literally every single time I befriend one of my idols, I find out she is mired with self-doubt and I'm honestly amazed at how good the Patriarchy is at convincing amazing women that they suck.
Me: *sitting in quiet awe of them*

Them: I'm feeling really down about myself and my career and I think I'm just a terrible human being

Me: *barely above a whisper* you walk in starlight
A bunch of men have jumped into my mentions to inform me that the Patriarchy is a fiction and I am truly grateful for them.

Because those fuckers remind me of how real this shit is and how it persists.
Honestly, thinking the moon landing was a hoax is a more viable belief than thinking the Patriarchy doesn't exist.

"All of our Presidents have been dudes but that's just because women don't want the job."
Some men don't want to see male privilege for the same reason a lot of white people refuse to see white privilege. Because it's terrifying to think that there's this invisible thing that exists that has, in ways you can't even see, made your life easier and other's lives harder.
And that you have perpetuated and profited from this thing that you, up until recently, may not have even realized existed. That's a hard pill to swallow. And it means you'd have to change.

So some people refuse to see it.

"The Patriarchy isn't real."
Anyway, the Patriarchy is real, and so is white privilege, and so is able-bodied, cis straight privilege. Your feminism should be intersectionalist.

You can believe the moon landing was real or a hoax. Honestly, I'm flexible on that one.
