I shared this great thread with the students in my American Revolution class today (along with a clip from Buckley's 1976 interview w/ Jeremy Rifkin). I asked my students "if you had to pick, who would you say 'owns' the American Revolution today, conservatives or progressives?"
100% of the students gave the same answer. As they see it, contemporary conservatives 'own' the American Revolution.
Rifkin's project failed--at least as of now and from the vantage point of 18 traditionally-aged college students in the Pacific Northwest.
