Trump picked them up and ran with them.
It works because it ‘leads the witness’. It manipulates the audience into interpreting some later info in the way the manipulator wanted.
Confirmation bias - believing things that line up with what they already believe; and
Apperception - seeing what they expected to see rather than what is there
Leading an audience to believe disinfo is very effective
...but there is ample circumstantial evidence of Trump doing exactly that.
Trump, Russia, Wikileaks, Roger Stone, and others all conspired to weaponize stolen emails for maximum damage by preemptively framing leaks and then merchandising their release.
That’s not collusion. It’s conspiracy.
