There's something people who all can see in the transition process going on in Venezuela is "USA intervention" seems to overlook: Guaido presidency is *temporary* and the Constitution demands elections once the rule of law is recovered. So hold your horses a bit
Also worth to mention that *he was elected to the Parlament* He's what in USA would be the speaker of the House, he's not just any random guy came to this, so far he's fulfilling his Constitutional duty.
On the other hand, so far there are two things the USA has done: 1) Recognise the Parlament as the only democratic institution remaining in Venezuela (as a bunch of countries did before then) and Guaido as the right representative of this popular elected Power.
2) Provide humanitarian help (still work in progress), which is something I suspect will be followed by othen nations later.
There is, of course, the ghost of the USA over the process, a terrible thing, given the history of these interventions in Latin America, but so far the USA has no firm guaranties of that to happen.
About the oil, we're just like USA fifth provider, something like 5%, even today
So, even being skeptical about the US (and I'm always skeptical, and more with Republicans and even more with Trump and company), please take a time to search and trying to understand what's happening today. This has been a 20 years rodeo, one NYT article won't cover it up
Oh, and if this helps, Guaido's party (and most Venezuelan parties) are pretty much center-left, members in one way or the other to International Socialist Organization, so this isn't a "extreme right wing coup", that is just ridiculous
This is an attempt to recover democracy in Venezuela, not by the US but by the Venezuelans, recognised by most of the international community
All this said, I do believe that adding Elliot Abrams in this matter is quite a bad and stupid idea, but that's on Trump, not us. Still, a very bad and dangerous move
