On a Danish train (again), 325km journey, 3.5 hours, standard 1-way ticket bought online few days ago 198kr (£22), walk-on price 388kr (£44), wide carriage, clean, comfortable, quiet, free wifi, State-owned/run DSB (Danish State Railway). Nationalised, high standards, affordable.
Walk-on ticket (I checked, just for curiosity’s sake): 388 kr (£44). Standard class
OMG!! Just checked equivalent distance/time journey in UK, walk-on price, Newcastle upon Tyne to London King’s Cross - £171. Staggering
That’s almost FOUR TIMES (!!!) the Danish price for roughly equivalent journey in time/distance, capital city to major provincial city. £44 & £171
Just checked other direction (London KC to Newcastle upon Tyne), walk-on price, same as NCL-Lon (£171). Absolutely incredible.
Just checked London to Newcastle 4 days ahead booking. (I boooked ticket 4 days in advance). Equivalent in terms of time/distance. Price is double Danish walk-on price except for only one time slot:
