Rebel Tories about to test the classic definition of stupidity again: instead of backing Yvette Cooper's Brexit amendment, they're likely to be mollified by a non-binding fingers-crossed promise by Theresa May that she will make meaningful changes to her deal in the next 2 weeks.
The only wafer-thin silver lining is that the closer we get to no deal, the more the pressure will ratchet up for the rational wing of the Tories to break away to save the UK. So it's going to be gritted teeth and sleepless nights for another 4-6 weeks.
Come early March, we will be close enough to see the bullet down the barrel of the gun we're pointing at our own head. That's when all normal rules of politics go out of the window. Because, no matter what twists and turns Brexit takes, there will never be a majority for no deal.

Only about 10% of all the generic medicines consumed in the UK are actually manufactured here, according to expert testimony from representatives of the pharmaceutical sector to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee in December 2017.

(Note: the original date of the testimony's pretty much irrelevant, since they also state it would take a decade to build up the UK's domestic production of such medicines.)
"We do not have the process capability in the UK to manufacture all medicines in the UK. We do not have the plants. These plants cost tens, sometimes hundreds, of millions of pounds to invest in."

Gina Miller's lawyers have stated it could take 7 years before the UK would be ready to trade on WTO terms after a no-deal Brexit. (These are the same lawyers that trounced the Government previously.)

So even though WTO terms are really a disaster (much much worse than portrayed by Brexiters such as members of the ERG) we wouldn't even have that flimsy safety net in place after Brexit Day. We would have nothing whatsoever, a complete trade dead zone.
Meanwhile, Economists for Free Trade, the biggest unicorn farmers in the business, claim there is "nothing to fear". Of course there might be one thing to fear at least: the fact that they're almost certainly wrong.

I'm different from most leftists in that my overriding concerns stem from the libertarian (in the classic, left wing, sense) impulse toward human freedom & against coercive power, rather than to one that's concerned toward fairness & equity for its own sake.
I do not have a principled objection to inequality/inequity, but I do have one to *stratification*, and these two are separate things. I also have an instrumental & consequentialist critique of inequality/inequity, on top of the above.
In other words, I think stratification is unjust, unjustifiable, consequentially bad, non-virtuous, inefficient, wasteful, and intrinsically wrong/evil, on top of that, I see inequality/inequity as being inefficient, wasteful, consequentially bad & socially deleterious.

Along with bribing an extremist party to prop-up a minority Govt, lying consistently to the public and MPs about what was possible, Ministers misleading Parliament, ignoring illegalities in a referendum, fixing Parliamentary Committees, and adopting Henry VIII powers.
Add to that blackmailing the public and MPs with threats of No Deal food & medicine shortages, demonising migrants, calling remainers Citizens of Nowhere, abandoning constitutional conventions, being found in contempt of Parliament, and undermining the Civil Service and Judiciary

The government shutdown is real out here on the Rez. We’re already poor, but I got friends & family who are normally working class who can’t pay their bills right now. When they cut off food stamps little ones are gonna go hungry through no fault of their own. My IHS doctor left.
I’m all for sovereignty and self sufficiency. I hunt, garden, harvest, gather & prepare my own food & medicine. But I also understand that every Native may not have the resources I do & demanding self sufficiency from people who are suffering right now does nothing to help them.
The federal government struck treaties with tribal nations. While they never fully honored them, they are not abrogated from those responsibilities. Health, education, rations, these were promised to Tribes in exchange for land that is essentially priceless.

Of course, the article fails to provide any source to show how they put forward such an argument.

We will realize how Tehran sought nuclear arms for decades. For a country sitting on an ocean of oil & gas, a "peaceful" nuclear program is meaningless.
A very telling cartoon about #NorthKorea & #Iran, as Pyongyang signals indications to set aside its nuclear weapons/ballistic missile program. This is leaving Tehran as now sole target of the international community's soon-to-come pressures.
