I'll be on @FoxNews tonight at 8pm ET talking about @HowardSchultz & the Democratic Party establishment's treatment of independent candidates & voters. If you don’t like Fox, please let @CNN, @MSNBC & your favorite channel know I'll talk with them anytime. :)
I don't support @HowardSchultz. What I do support is voters' right to have a full say in our democracy. Don't like a system where someone can “split the vote”? Support the movement for Ranked Choice Voting, which lets you vote FOR what you want instead of AGAINST what you fear.
Americans want more choices, not less. Choice is not the enemy of a fair voting system - it's essential for it. That's why Ranked Choice Voting is the medicine that our ailing democracy so urgently needs. Who doesn't want the freedom to vote for what you actually want?
Americans' dissatisfaction with our government has grown & grown for years & years. Tightening the stranglehold of the establishment parties that got us into this mess will only make things worse.
The two-party system is not the solution, it's the problem. At least, that's what a landslide majority of Americans think. Roughly 60% of US agree the Democratic & Republican parties do such a poor job representing us that a third major party is needed. news.gallup.com/poll/244094/ma…
Independents are the largest group of voters, outnumbering both Democrats & Republicans. But the largest group of all is nearly half of Americans who don't vote because they have no voice in our corporate political system - disproportionately young, low-income & people of color.
The majority of Americans didn't like or trust either establishment party candidate in 2016. 75% wanted Greens & Libertarians in the debates, but the people's will was overruled by the DNC/RNC-owned debate commission. In 2012, they locked me up just for showing up at the debates.
Instead of cracking down on democracy and debate, we can open it up to more voices and more choices with Ranked Choice Voting. Communities that use #RankedChoiceVoting have higher turnout, happier voters, and less negative campaigns that are more about issues than attacks.
With Ranked Choice Voting you can vote for your favorite candidates without any worry about "wasting your vote", "splitting the vote" or "spoiling" an election. #RankedChoiceVoting works both for single-seat elections, like President, and multi-seat elections, like Congress.
With Ranked Choice Voting, candidates need majority support to win. They can't win with less than 50%, which has happened in 4 of the last 7 Presidential elections. Voters simply rank their choices 1, 2, 3... & if your 1st choice doesn't win, your vote goes to your 2nd choice.
We need to be able to vote for what we want, not just against what we fear. Democracy needs a moral compass - that's our values. If we can't vote our values, we're lost at sea. #RankedChoiceVoting, used by millions in Maine, cities across the US & many countries, is the solution.
