After my theory on the #twinpeaks ending the other day, here’s my alternate take, which doesn’t necessarily contradict my first (if anything it adds to it).
The glass box in New York is Doppelcoop’s endeavour to trap Judy. The couple who have sex in front of it summon her, and she destroys them.
The only thing that can defeat evil is whatever golden goodness Laura is made of. Any iteration of this goodness gets stamped out, annihilated (Laura, Mandy.)
The fireman’s plan is this: what if we create a world in which Laura isn’t there, because Laura isn’t Laura. Doesn’t even know who she is. Build it separate from the collective dream we all reside In.
Then, have two people have sex to summon Judy into it.
Then, have Coop retrieve this unaware Laura and take her to the place Judy resides - where Judy, like an animal following a scent, has crawled back to. The Palmer House.
This is a trap. A box. Cooper isn’t sure why it didn’t work, tries to reason it out, but from within the house, Judy can’t help herself. She calls to Laura, Laura remembers, and WHUMP - the electricity gutters out and the dream collapses.
Again, this doesn’t contradict my earlier theory - it’s just a different way to look at the intentions of the Fireman and Cooper.
There's also a lot of evidence to indicate that the end of FWWM - Laura joyously accepting her fate and seeing the angel, is the chronological end. It would make the finale basically a Last Temptation of Christ pre-crucifixion situation.
