So great to see #ExposeChristianSchools getting the attention it deserves.

Here's more context: Many of these schools now receive public funding through vouchers. Their textbooks call slavery "black immigration," say Satan hatched the idea of "psychology"

I created a database of every voucher school in the country. I found AT LEAST 33% of schools use these extremist curriculums.

They teach kids to see other religions as evil, women as lesser. Textbooks call civil rights activists "black supremacists"

At least 14% of these voucher schools actively advertise policies that ban LGBTQ staff members and staff. I wrote about a school that expelled an 8-year-old because she wasn't "feminine" enough.

Taxpayers are supporting these policies.

Florida has a voucher program that gives scholarships to kids who have been bullied. Many of the schools in this program ban LGBTQ kids. & THIS IS AN ANTI-BULLYING PROGRAM!!

I know many people were shocked by my Karen Pence story. But if you know anything about the brand of Christianity practiced by the Pence's, it's utterly unsurprising that they would choose to support this school.

The school where Karen Pence will be working makes potential employees sign a pledge promising they won't participate in "homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity."

They also have to explain their "view of the creation/evolution debate."
The employment application also says "a wife is commanded to submit to her husband."
To be clear, this means Karen Pence has chosen to work at a school with blatantly discriminatory hiring practices. The school bans LGBTQ employees. Seems notable

1. Here's the thing, @davidmweissman. Radical evangelicals love to brag about how much they (supposedly) give to charity, but according to them, when the state does it, it's "idolatry." They don't care that needs will go unmet #ExposeChristianSchools #ExposeChristianHomeschooling
2. After all, what they want is to be in control of whose needs get met and how. This is authoritarian paternalism, and this paranoid fear of the state, which Reagan was happy to fuel, has direct roots in Christian Reconstructionism, though they can be traced back even further.
3. In fact, we can see the seeds of contemporary arguments about preserving "the family" (read: nuclear, "traditional") and "the Church" against supposedly illegitimate encroachment from the state in the nineteenth century:

The first thing that jumped out at me: you can't prove something irrational. EITHER their fears are irrational, OR they have been proven -- what?
True? Even more ridiculous than we thought? Full of cheese?
There's something missing here. Missing on purpose I think. It's supposed to imply the answer is "true" without committing to that.

I think absolute experiences are rare. I certainly had a lot positive that I *could* say, but there’s a combination of factors enabling that: Circumstance, my privilege, and the fact that many people at least *think* they’re doing right.

BUT...

I don't usually discuss politics or religion here, but this is important.

I am a homeschool kid, and was heavily indoctrinated from a young age. There are countless others out there like me still to this day. Far more than most people realize.

I was homeschooled K-12. There were almost no restrictions on what was taught, and my highschool diploma was based almost entirely on my mom's word. Thankfully, she was a diligent teacher and my education was excellent. Some of my friends weren't so lucky.

Almost 100% of the other people I interacted with all throughout middle and high school were either from our local Christian homeschool group, or from church. I was rarely allowed any unsupervised time, and almost every activity was strictly controlled.
