I don't usually discuss politics or religion here, but this is important.
I am a homeschool kid, and was heavily indoctrinated from a young age. There are countless others out there like me still to this day. Far more than most people realize.
I was homeschooled K-12. There were almost no restrictions on what was taught, and my highschool diploma was based almost entirely on my mom's word. Thankfully, she was a diligent teacher and my education was excellent. Some of my friends weren't so lucky.
Almost 100% of the other people I interacted with all throughout middle and high school were either from our local Christian homeschool group, or from church. I was rarely allowed any unsupervised time, and almost every activity was strictly controlled.
We started every day pledging allegiance to the American flag, to the Christian flag, and to the Bible. Scripture memorization and hymns were key parts of our curriculum. Faith was the cornerstone of everything. Doubting the Bible was not tolerated.
We learned that the Earth was only 6000 years old, that dinosaurs and man walked side by side, and that Noah's flood was a factual historical event. It was always made very clear that every evolutionary display we encountered was a sinful lie.
We were taught that the founding fathers of America were strong Christians who fled Europe because they were persecuted for their faith in Jesus, and then founded a Christian nation where everyone could freely worship the God of the Bible.
We were strictly engrained in a worldview where any sex before marriage between consenting adults is adultery, and essentially no better than sexual assault. But at least it wasn't as terrible as homosexuality. And Abortion was FAR worse. Literally murder.
Even masterbation was an awful sin, and I carried an enormous weight of guilt for this well into adulthood. At one point, a reaction to finding pornography was comparable to a good parent discovering a crack cocaine stash. (But thank God I was straight...)
The only sex we were taught about was basic biology, and to save it for marriage at all costs. Even in college, I firmly believed that if I could have my first kiss on my wedding day, that would be the best outcome.
We were never taught about contraception or how to use it, and if they had ever even found a single condom on my person or in my room, I would have been in serious trouble.
If you want to know why premature pregnancy rates are so high, this is why.
So yes, you got that right. All of these things are pure evil, and the blame is laid squarely on the child's shoulders:
1) masterbation
2) pornography
3) having contraceptives
4) any sexual behavior outside marriage
5) getting pregnant
6) abortion
And you know why this works? Because guilt and fear are powerful motivators. You can maintain control. Many of them never escape from this and pass it on to their children. And more pregnancies means more young minds to distort. It's a vicious cycle.
And please do NOT direct hate toward my parents. Misguided as they are, they still worked extremely hard, showed a great amount of love, and provided a far above average education on all the most important fundamentals. That is not why I say any of this.
The reason I say all this is because I'm not alone. Far from it. There were dozens of similar homeschoolers in our small rural Texas community alone. Others were too strict even for that. And many private Christian schools are hardly any different.
The important thing to remember is that this is NOT rare. There are extremely large numbers of fundamentalists all across the country. Most you will never see until voting day, because they isolate themselves. And they ALL favor religious conservatives.
As an example, there were a number of other families we met randomly that were far stricter and more isolated even than us, and a couple of them had more than 10 children each to send out and repeat the cycle. This is one way they are winning in politics.
