It’s long-standing EU law that an EU cit who falls under a member states social security system has equal rights to family benefits for their children in their “home” state.

Irish officials awarded him unemployment benefit, but said the long-standing EU law on counting his children abroad didn’t count. The argument is *really literal & technical* and not worth discussing. The Court dismissed it.

This *isnt* the “EU Court deciding that benefits must be paid for children abroad”. That was decided decades ago in a law made unanimously by the EU Council - the Governments of the Member States.

It’s just a straightforward interpretation of that law. //ends
