I realise where the anger came from now. It was never at Brexit itself, it was about the sheer waste of fucking time.

The waste of two fucking years. What it's been like, watching these ghastly sunken faces slobbering out their drivel, and a media too fucking stupid to ask the right questions.

I really thought Theresa May would resign long before this, when the Tory MPs behind her finally realised she was driving them down a dead end.

The withdrawal agreement stands as it is. Europe is not going to rewrite it. And what nobody still understands is that we can't leave.

Because even if we leave Europe with no agreement, we're still bound by the Good Friday Agreement. The country breaks up.

The Good Friday Agreement is not part of Brexit. Whatever way you choose to leave has to maintain that integrity.
So Northern Ireland is going to stay in the European Union.

That's what the backstop is all about. Like we said earlier. It establishes the limit of separation.
Before we've even started negotiating anything, we've already agreed that the Irish border has to be as it is now.

If Britain decides it wants a more distant relation with Europe, the backstop originally said that Northern Ireland would be left behind, at minimum inside the customs union.

Obviously the DUP and the Tories didn't like that. It splits our country

Alright, so they agreed that the backstop would have to apply to the whole United Kingdom. The backstop says we all stay in the customs union.
That way we maintain our own integrity and keep the Irish border open.

And like we said, the backstop is the limit of separation. We can negotiate an even closer relation in future, but the backstop is the permanent legal minimum. Customs union.

No future negotiation will be able to diminish that legal minimum. We can agree more stuff on top of it, we can agree a new treaty that brings us even closer than the backstop. But there's no getting out of the customs union.

And everyone seems to think this backstop is hypothetical. But it's not. It's active. It becomes active the minute we ratify the withdrawal agreement.
That's a permanent customs union, and we will be legally bound to that. there's no exit clause from that.

There are only two things that can happen now. Either the withdrawal agreement passes through parliament or it doesn't. And you know, it doesn't make a lot of difference either way.

Say parliament adopts this withdrawal agreement. That fixes us in the customs union permanently. And because we're staying in that, we might as well stay in everything, and before you know it we're back as we were.

Say parliament refuses this withdrawal agreement. Say it doesn't like the idea of being in the customs union but lose all our voting rights and influence.
Parliament rejects the withdrawal agreement, what then?

Immediately you've got a problem because the Good Friday agreement says you've got to keep an open border in Ireland.
Do you want to break up the country and put a border down the Irish Sea? That's the result of trying to leave with no agreement

All the English Nationalists are perfectly happy to break up the United Kingdom for the sake of Brexit.
But the DUP are not, as well as upwards of 200 Tories.

You can leave the European Union, but you'll have to leave Northern Ireland behind.
And then you'll provoke Scotland into another independence referendum which the SNP will win.
Not only the UK but now Britain is broken up.

And this is the point I've been making for the last three years. You either stay in the European Union or you leave and break up your country.
There is no third option. Just those two, and one of those two things is going to happen

And I've sat here for three years watching all these supposedly educated people, middle aged adults, chasing their tails round and round and fucking round.
Three fucking years.
