This is going to be part of a presentation I'm giving soon.

This is Fruitlandia.

They heavily protect their apple growers. They love bananas, like cherries, don't care much for dates and have a near monopoly on elderberries.

What's the average tariff?

Happy for people to give their reasoning.
Ok. Good feedback!

So now the Fruilandian bureaucrats feel that they're not getting enough granular data about import statistics, so they decide to update their tariffs schedule by carving out some fruits from "Other", but still at the 10% rate.

What now? Poll in next tweet.
Again would love to hear people's thought processes on this.
Ok, so a few people are saying you can't tell without knowing the amount of goods imported, so lets add that information from before the bureaucrats got to work.

Does this make any difference?
So what's the average tariff now?

Do we have two or more averages?

Which is best?
Right, so to finish this up, I'll just post the last two tables.

The average % is obviously unreliable with so few items (tariff lines), but does it become more reliable the lager the dataset?
Using the trade-weighted average is obviously consistent and the number of tariff lines is irrelevant, but it's also influenced heavily by the tariffs themselves.

With so few apples imported the duty collected is so low it barely effects the figures.

Is there a solution?
