1/ We share this info from a trusted source: Time to Change have got a new model. They call this a Time to Change Hub.

Time to Change are giving £25,000 to organisations across the country.
2/ They're calling these organisations "Time to Change Hubs".

There are several features of hubs. The organisations are local to a particular area: some are in cities, some are across a county. The organisations have to have "lived experience leadership".
3/ The organisations have to focus on tackling mental health stigma and discrimination. They're allowed to use Time to Change branding. and there's some "training" available.
4/ Time to Change seem to think that Local Authorities will have overall supervision of Time to Change Hubs.

The money is split into two pots. There's a pot for admin and another pot for something called the "Champions fund".
5/ People with lived experience of mental ill health form a committee called the champions committee, and they look after the champions fund.
6/ Other people with lived experience of mental ill health can apply to the fund for a small amount of money (up to £250) to run a "social contact" event. (Social contact is jargon and it has specific meaning for TTC).

There are several problems with this.
7/ Having attended some of the Time to Change training and found it poor. Not well organised and almost insulting in its content. Attended some Time to Change meetings about the process of becoming a hub.
8/ Questions about how Time to Change hub work would affect benefit claimants met with: they had no idea -- they hadn't even considered it. They couldn't get their heads around the idea that it might put claimants at risk from DWP.
9/ It's a huge amount of work from local organisations and people with lived experience for very little return (the training is terrible and you promote TTC). And there's a risk that local organisations lose their identity as the Time to Change branding is imposed upon them as…
10/ …part of their participation in the Hub.

Worse than all of this, is that it's a competitive tendering process and there are limited opportunities to become a hub.
11/ And Time to Change are offering something to organisations that are unsuccessful in their bids: the chance to become an "Organic Hub". The difference between a Hub and an Organic Hub is that an organic hub is unfunded.
12/ So people have to promote Time to Change, in return for nothing.
