So I was traveling for work, and I happened to turn the hotel TV on Monday night. It was initially turned to Fox News 🙄 and just then the #TrumpRally in #ElPaso was on. I watched for a few minutes and happened to catch the following sequence...
#TrumpRallyElPaso
Trump decries "fake news" and specifically points out the press section.
#StochasticTerrorism
Minutes later, a Trump supporter in a #MAGA hat attacks a BBC journalist.

We are lucky this time that it wasn't worse. With things out there like "Day of the Brick," it's easy to predict that attacks on journalists will continue, and worsen.

And indeed, worse attacks have happened - it was just unnerving to see the goading and then the attack in such close temporal proximity.
It is usually much harder to track the cause and effect of #StochasticTerrorism in action.

Trump asks if the journalists are OK, plays the humane, concerned paternalist.
This is #Gaslighting. He is also - dishonestly - disavowing his part in it.
Note that he also looked smug as the crowd shouted "Let him go! Let him go!" while security bustled the attacker out.
Later, Trump asks the crowd rhetorically: "Is there any place that's more fun to be than a Trump rally? Is there any place? You know, they all said, 'Mr. President, we loved the tone of your #StateOfTheUnion speech.' Some people said it was a great speech...." (quote continues)
"Some people said, 'Really a great speech.' I said, 'But if I ever did that in El Paso, Texas, it wouldn't written here too well,' do you agree? Nice and calm. No, that's not what you're looking for. This is more fun."

#IncitingViolence
Note the additional stochastic terrorism, the tacit approval of the attack. He's also encouraging his followers to identify with wanting this.
You love this, don't you.
You don't want calm, you want this. This not-quite-contained violence, you want this.
It was almost hypnotic.
