18 mths ago, I started out on a participatory research project with a group of volunteers, 3 @uccsocialwork Students and @CARL_UCC. We examined the needs of young people in Douglas, Cork. We had ZERO funding and very tight deadlines! But we got there!
We used creative research methods (photo-voice) and we interviewed minors - so there were a couple of nail-biting weeks when we were waiting for ethical approval! But we got there!
Energy, enthusiasm, endurance and, above all, solidarity got us through! Solidarity with young people, who we knew would provide expertise when we spoke with them. Solidarity with our community partners, who were committed volunteers dedicated to improving resources for youth.
Our rich research findings have produced change in Douglas with the introduction of a youth cafe in the area and the inclusion of youth spaces in the community park and building. We got there! #DouglasMatters

On Thursday, The Education Awards are taking place in Ballsbridge in Dublin @EDUAwardsIRL ... and we are shortlisted in the ‘Best Research Project’!!!!! Looking forward to the awards - So proud of the research team - Cara, John, Steph and the volunteers in Douglas Matters!
