A roundup of what some of our members were up to today.
Thread/
We had a small group in Ellesmere Port near the Asda. There was a brief moment of excitement as our Emma thought she had spotted some unicorns. Unfortunately she just had the wrong glasses on at first. 😉
It was a tough day on the stall getting better as the day went on. The overwhelming feeling from the passers-by was brexit fatigue. There were fed up of it and they just want it all to stop.
We were told by one worried person that a local pharmaceutical firm is moving some jobs to Berlin thanks to the uncertainty of Brexit. I think we can safely assume this has no connection to a drop in diesel sales in Europe. 🤔
We spoke to several #remainernow including a woman who had voted leave as a protest against David Cameron (thanks a bunch for your contribution to the well being of the UK David but next time don’t bother).
This woman is now extremely concerned about the consequences particularly on our local business community and feels now we should keep our membership exactly as before but concentrate on fixing our domestic problems 👏
We met a trade unionist from Airbus. As you know Airbus is a big employer in our area. He said there is a very great amount of anxiety and concern next week as to what will happen next.
Every job lost at a company like Airbus has a knock on effect on the rest of the local economy which serves it and its staff from stationers to accountants from child minders to waiters, from cleaners to shop managers.
One leave voter did not think we would leave but didn’t seem particularly upset as a result. Another contributor commented we will lose a lot of funding we previously got for the whole region from the EU. Is that money going to appear from central government?
So all in all a mixed bag. Hard to get people to stop and engage though on the bright side we got some good interaction with young people. Well done to our Ellesmere Port team
Meanwhile our WeaverVale for Europe sub team were doing a mini tour of Weaverham and Northwich. Another tough gig. Again it was hard to get people to engage because they are sick of thinking about brexit and they just want it to stop. They also came across some hard brexiters.
But there were quite a lot of visitors to the stall who were very keen to remain and lots of them signed up to support our group. So a new group is growing and this is what we have to remember, every day more people want to #Stopbrexit
Some interesting conversations, one of note was a man who works in the food industry and explained that the millions being spent on contingency planning thanks to uncertainly was incredibly damaging to the businesses concerned and he wanted a speedy resolution.
We had a bit more engagement on the Brexitometer. Note still no appetite for a general election. The most popular solutions wanted are either outright revoke or a peoplesvote. At all sites an overwhelming feeling that Brexit is a problem which they want gone. #JustMakeItStop
If you are fed up with Brexit there really is only one way to make it stop. That is #stopbrexit.
May’s deal, No-Deal, Labours Deal - all they will do is embroil us in negotiations and rebuilding and tying up parliamentary and civil service time for years.
We will all have to pay for that, it’s dead money and the B word will be on the news every single night
So do something positive and help us put an end to it. Go and see your MP tell them you want them to #revokearticle50 and if they can’t decide tell them to #putittothepeople
Come and march with us on the 23rd March in London , we are putting on coaches - book your place now and helps us get a #peoplesvote
