I was talking to a friend who's a white, evangelical Christian. "I'm worried you've become bitter and wrathful, esp about the church," he said.
I am angry, I said.
But it's not bitterness, it's the anger of hurt & betrayal, anger against injustice.
I *believed* white Christians when they said they cared about racial justice.
When they said they cared about the Other, I thought they did.
I care that we're traumatizing a generation of immigrant kids. I care that we're sending refugees - many of whom lost everything because of policies and interventions from our government - back home to likely death.
I care that women are raped by the men they trust.
I care if people see me and people who look like me as fully human.
He literally flipped tables. He cursed at the religious elite. He had no patience for church corruption either.
And a poor member of an oppressed people.
The American church is neither.
