Keeping families together is not an excuse for detention. Let’s be very clear. Immigration detention is a cruel and unnecessary practice. Innocent children should never be used as a propaganda tool.
Zero Tolerance was used as a terror tactic to keep out asylum seeking families. The youngest victims of this policy were infants, some just a few months old. DHS and the Trump administration are hiding behind the rhetoric of national security.
These families come here fleeing persecution. They are met with razor wire and heavily armed CBP officials. Children are not a threat to our borders. The US government is attempting to dehumanize and criminalize these families. #FamilySeparation
